You can make the best face masks right at home! Fruit, milk, green tea, coffee, honey, milk, spices and yogurt all have beneficial effects for your skin. Learn how to blend them for some sweet-smelling beauty!
While you wait for any mask to work its magic, refresh your eyes by covering them with cucumber slices or brewed, cooled green tea bags. Their antioxidants and flavonoids soothe eyes and reduce puffiness.
Safety note: Any skin can react to any ingredient. Test anything you put on your skin – apply it to a small area first and wait to see if you have a reaction. Keep any ingredients away from the eye area, and out of eyes, noses, and ears.
Egg whites and Lemon
Best for: Oily Skin
Egg whites tighten the pores, replenish the skin and help to remove excess oils. Mix and white with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and blend for 1 minute. Apply to your dry face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Strawberry, Yogurt and Honey Mask
Best for: All Skin
Take two strawberries, 2 teaspoons plain yogurt, and 2 teaspoons of raw honey. The strawberries and milk both provide mild acids for exfoliating, and the honey soothes and has antibacterial properties. In a bowl, mash the strawberries with a fork until smooth. Add yogurt and honey and mix them well. After washing your face with a mild cleanser, spread this mask over your face and neck evenly. Relax for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Banana, Honey and Sour Cream Mask
Best for: Dry Skin
Moisturize and smooth skin using half a mashed banana, 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of sour cream. Smooth it on your face and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Turmeric Powder and Sugar Exfoliating Mask
Best for: Dull or Oily Skin
Turmeric has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that make it ideal for treating blackheads and pimples. Sugar provides a mild scrubbing action and natural acids for exfoliation. Make a skin brightening mask by mixing equal amounts of turmeric powder and sugar. Add some water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on your face and neck and let it stay for 15-20 minutes, then gently massage the mask on your skin. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Papaya, Raw Honey, and Milk Exfoliating Mask
Best for: All Skin
The enzymes in papaya are great for smoothing and exfoliating your skin. Mix 1 tablespoon of mashed papaya, 2 teaspoons of raw honey (or regular honey), and 1 tablespoon of milk. Apply to your face and neck and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Coffee and Olive Oil
Best for: All Skin, but perhaps not Sensitive Skin
Coffee is a gentle scrub with antioxidant properties, while olive oil is a natural moisturizer and antiseptic. Mix 2 tablespoons coffee grounds with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Apply to the face using gentle circular motions. Relax for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Green Tea, Yogurt and Honey Skin Soother
Best for: All Skin, especially Irritated Skin
Green tea’s antioxidant powers soothe and clear the skin. Open and mix 2 green tea bags with 2 teaspoons plain yogurt, and 2 teaspoons of raw honey. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
You can take any of these ingredients and blend them for a product that will give you some benefits: Banana-strawberry-green tea? Coffee and yogurt face smoothie? Honey and turmeric brightener? Go for it!
